Geez, stop teasing me if you have no intention of developing their relationship *grumble grumble*
Yeah, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit disappointed with this last episode of Usagi Drop. Then again, I probably shouldn’t of gotten my hopes up knowing how the manga ended. In all likely hood, there was more of a chance for an open ended episode than there was one that would have wrapped things up nicely, whichever way the show decided to go. Actually, this kind of ‘will they, won’t they’ ending is perfect for those who weren’t fans of the manga, allowing them to latch onto something different, while at the same time giving those who enjoyed the manga hopes that Usagi Drop may get another season.
I wonder what would have happened if Usagi Drop ended realistically. However that word ‘realistic’ is kind of a double edge sword. If you think about it, anything in a show like Usagi Drop can be considered realistic, right? But are these characters, especially Daikiichi and Rin, anywhere near realistic? Even Yukari and Kouki suffer a bit from this. In some ways Yukari can even be seen as suffering from the ara ara syndrome (perhaps that why I like her so much, she even has Sayaka Ohara as a seiyuu), she’s got her own problems and yet looks past them to see that she’s got herself quite the good life. There’s obstacles to face, yes, but she overcomes them by being eternally optimistic.
Saying this however, does not take away from the fact that there are people out there who are like Daikichi and Yukari, and perhaps even in similar circumstances. But really, If you had two adults struggling to raise children by themselves, there would probably be some sense of camaraderie that would pull them together. At least, that’s the type of feeling I get. They might not get married and blah blah, but they’d certainly spend most of their time together. Don’t people facing hardships tend to gravitate towards one another so they’re not facing those problems alone? Isn’t that what Societies do when faced with a crisis?
Overall though, I did enjoy this series. From all the spite that was gathering thanks to the manga, I didn’t really know what to expect. Now, however, I can safely say that if this should ever be brought to the states, I wouldn’t mind paying the money to own it. Usagi drop is a beautiful series artistically (the faces are still kind of eh, but they’re not horrible by any means), and it sends a cute message that families got to stick together. I really enjoyed it.

Overall it was a great show, maybe a bit too “happy” and easygoing at times (says the one who loves Aria), but still full of heart. A show you wouldn’t be embarrassed showing someone that’s not into anime.
The first thing that popped into my head the moment Yukari came onscreen was “It’s Alicia with black hair and a kid… I guess the marriage didn’t go so well”
Joking aside, I wonder if they’ll let this laying dog lie, or should I say rabbit? There’s plenty to go on, but I’d rather them keep it like this. Unless they decided to go completely off the wall with an anime unique ending. I’d watched it either way though.

About our little bunny, I believe it depends on the sales. But if they do a second season, I would love an anime original ending. Must be the first time I ever wanted an anime to end differently. Still, like you, I would watch a second season either way.
Alicia’s marriage always irked me, it didn’t feel right. Yeah, we can assume she’s been seeing someone, but for even Akari to not know who the guy is just seems kinda iffy. There’s too much shock that its seems like it came out of nowhere for no particular reason other than to have Akari face being Prima alone. Though I must say, it made for one emotional ending, I was crying throughout the whole last episode.
As for Usagi Drop, I’ll guess we’ll just have to wait and see them.

I thought the Usagi Drop anime was nice. I know nothing of the manga, but my feeling at the end of this season was that the episodes were sweet, but the plot definitely left me hanging. There were some interesting developments regarding Rin’s mother, as well as the whole thing between Daikichi and Kouki’s mom that didn’t quite go anywhere.
At any rate, I liked watching this show, and thought Daikichi was a great protagonist. I was a little bothered by Rin being such a perfect child, but I did like how many aspects of raising a kid were addressed.
Yeah, those hanging plot threads irk me too, I mean they left a lot of stuff open, but I can’t say I didn’t like the show. It was probably one of my favorites of the summer season, next to Ikoku and Mawaru Penguindrum.
